To celebrate the 20th anniversary of its reopening, the Galleria Borghese will inaugurate a large exhibition dedicated to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who rejoins the critical discourse launched with the exhibition "Bernini sculptor", realized twenty years ago. The Villa, which contains the most important and spectacular core of Berninian marbles, is in fact the ideal venue to consider the entire production of the artist and the articulated problems associated with it.
The leading theme of the exhibition is therefore the privileged scene of sculpture at the Galleria Borghese, and its genius is Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
Throughout the entire arch of his long career, he intends to complete the 1998 project, which specifically examined the great activity of the great artist, with a thorough investigation of the ways and times of Bernini 's monumental sculpture, amplitude of its consequences, also through a precise focus on the close relationship between painting and sculpture, from which, during the 1920s, the language of the Baroque was formulated.
The individual sections of the exhibition will be entrusted to specialists who have long been concerned with the great artist or particular aspects of his career or his role in the wider Baroque phenomenon (Andrea Bacchi, Maria Giulia Barberini, Anna Coliva , Anne-Lise Desmas, Luigi Ficacci, and Stefano Pierguidi).
