Naples and Pompeii
From May 26 to 10 January 2016
in Naples and Pompeii
at the start the show with the works of the greatest European artists.
Pompeii, as it was represented or imagined by the greatest European artists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
This is the underlying theme of the international exhibition "Pompeii and Europe
" that will be set up parallel in the archaeological site of Pompeii and at the Archaeological Museum of Naples from May 26 (which will remain open until November 2).
In the amphitheater of Pompeii we will be exhibited 30 original plaster casts, restored for the occasion, that tell, with all their dramatic expressive power, the last moments of life of Pompeii two thousand years ago, before the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD delete them forever.
The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN), however, will exhibit the works (paintings, drawings, collections of prints, architectural plans, photographs, sculptures, decorative art) of great artists of the past like Picasso, Normand, de Chirico, Le Corbusier , Canova, Klee, Moreau, Sain, Gigante, Palizzi, Gaeta, Hackert, Piranesi, Morelli, De Nittis, Duclère.
The common denominator will be the inspiration of the works in the life of ancient Pompeii. It will all be confronted with rNapoli and eperti Pompeian originals.
On the other hand its great archaeological discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which took place in the late 1700s, inspired in Europe a wide artistic production (Neoclassicism, in fact) fascinated by the ancient Roman civilization. The MANN also host some finds from Pompeii collection of the British Museum in London.
